Next, visit the nearby Dharmarajika Stupa and Monastery, built by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BCE. Upon reaching the Kalash Valley, you will immediately notice the shift in culture and environment. The Kalash people are an ancient ethnic group with a distinct cultural identity, religion, and language, different from the rest of Pakistan. Their vibrant clothing, unique traditions, and colorful festivals make Kalash an unforgettable destination. In the afternoon, begin your exploration of Bumburet, the largest and most popular of the three Kalash valleys. The Kalash people follow an ancient polytheistic religion, and you’ll have the opportunity to visit one of their shrines, learning about their spiritual practices and rituals that are deeply connected to nature and the changing seasons. Next, drive to Rumbur Valley, a more secluded and peaceful valley that offers a different perspective on Kalash culture.The road to Rumbur is rough and narrow, but the drive rewards you with panoramic views of rugged mountains and deep gorges. Rumbur is smaller than Bumburet but maintains a more traditional way of life, where Kalash customs and rituals are preserved in their purest form. Explore the village, interact with the warm and welcoming locals, and visit sacred sites that hold deep spiritual significance for the community. One of the highlights of the day will be learning about the Kalash seasonal festivals, which include the famous Chilimjusht (Spring Festival) and Uchau (Harvest Festival).
