Every summer, in the remote heights of northern Pakistan, a timeless tradition unfolds against the backdrop of the world’s greatest mountains, the “Shandur Polo Festival”. Held at 3,700 meters (12,139 feet) on the world’s highest polo ground, this is no ordinary sporting event; it’s a cultural spectacle where honor, heritage, and raw mountain spirit converge.
The festival brings together the fearless teams of Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan, who have clashed on this plateau since the 1930s in polo’s purest, freestyle form with no umpires and no rules but courage. Yet this journey is more than a game. It’s a passage through ancient valleys, lost civilizations, and breathtaking natural beauty. From the mystical Kalash Valleys to the turquoise waters of Phander Lake, and onward to the legendary Hunza Valley, each day reveals another layer of northern Pakistan’s soul.
Guided by Venus Trails’ expert women-led team, this journey combines cultural immersion, adventure, and authenticity. Camp beneath stars at Shandur Pass, meet local artisans, explore ancient forts, and witness landscapes that defy imagination. This is a journey for seekers, storytellers, and explorers, a celebration of tradition and the spirit of the mountains.
